Was in kid in Detroit in the l950s and remember milk being delivered in horse-drawn vehicles that probably were built by Divco. Milkmen always were very nice and would chip off some pieces of perfectly clear ice from big blocks if we brought out some paper to hold the pieces. We loved to pull up grass and feed the horses. I even remember an old white horse named Farmer. Seemed the horses knew every stop. If, in fact, they made such vehicles, is there a place where I could find a photograph of same? Thanks.
Divco never made horse drawn vehicles. The concept for Divco trudks was born with George Bacon, the chief engineer of Detroit Electric Vehicles. When battery power proved unmatched for heavy loads of milk in Detroit winters, he left the company to adapt his design to gasoline power, and the Detroit Industrial Vehcile Company (DIVCO) was born.
